It’s that time of the year when we are ready to say goodbye. We celebrate, we contemplate, we make new resolutions, we think about our accomplishments. It came, it saw and it was over. The year 2019 will soon eclipse and we’ll rise into another decade changing the year of 2020.
Accomplishments are great, but they don’t give sustainable joy. You feel momentarily happy and then you forget about that moment till you reflect. Despite all this, what’s more important is to cherish all the small moments that life offers. We forget those moments. A moment like seeing my mom recovering to her better health, a moment like me and my fiance deciding to live together, a moment like spending a summer evening while eating some tacos by the lake. All of those were important moments in the year.
I have always believed in the process and most of my goals are very process-oriented. 2019 had been a long year, but I’m glad I’ve lived this year. I am grateful to my ability to write, my family, my friends, my fiance, my well-wishers, and all the world for being there to support me.
As part of my writing, I published my second book Blind Alley.
One lesson in publishing this book was that writing had become easier with every passing day, but marketing the book is still a challenge. Now I write at least a thousand words a day. Overall as part of writing, I started writing a novel which I plan to publish in 2020. I wrote 11 short stories, have submitted some of those with all the rejections so far.
Now my focus has shifted towards marketing and spreading the word about my works. I use social media mostly to spread the word about my creative endeavor. Other than all those writings, I also started this blog to write about different subjects that fascinate me. Most of those subjects are connected with writing.
The year 2020.
Life is about to change. With the new year, comes new challenges and responsibilities. I look forward to my writing process, having my own writing room, and reading more books. I have fallen in love with Ray Bradbury’s writing, his work. The way his writing has helped me to improve my craft, it makes me get ready for the year 2020 even with more enthusiasm and excitement. This year, I am planning to write more short stories. Writing a novel is a big challenge and you shouldn’t take that challenge till you have a solid plot or something deep in your psyche tells you to write the book with more gusto and zest.
So simple process change would be to focus on writing as many short stories as possible. Also as part of the process, submitting all those short stories to different magazines and publishing agencies.
On the professional front, I plan to take a bigger challenge and risk to improve my coding skills, my decision-making skills, my software product skills. A decade is long, but the upcoming decade will change a lot of things. All those changes won’t necessarily be good ones, but change is the only constant thing.
What matters at the end of the day how you make crucial decisions and how you cherish all-important moments with your loved ones.
So enjoy the upcoming year with vigor and make great stories and memories. Thank you year 2019. Also if you enjoy science-fiction, you can read my essay the science in science fiction.
