For any writer to write, he or she must trust the unconscious and let that unconscious guide the writing flow.
There are different ways writers think and write about their stories. Some writers create elaborate plans and strategies to write. Some start writing without any plan. Irrespective of which camp you are in, your unconscious should guide the writing. All your stories are there, in your unconscious. Consciousness may not remember, but the unconscious will always remember.
Writing without thinking
The purpose of writing through the unconscious is to write without thinking. Usually, you can schedule a fixed time to write. But life happens. With so much happening, how do you even find time to write? 10 Minutes Or 15 Minutes are enough. The goal of this writing session is to write without thinking. Let those thoughts flow. Write anything, absolutely anything. Build that habit of writing. When you trust the unconscious, it will bring out the absurdities of all those characters or thoughts that are meandering around in your mind.
Most writers daydream. Those daydreams, those chance encounters with strangers bring out the characters in the unconscious. The only way to get out those stories is to write without thinking.
Effortless Writing
Effortless writing is not about writing your best possible story. It is to get your thoughts out of your mind. This is probably similar to Writing without thinking.
In the previous section, I mentioned writing at least 10 or 15 minutes. But it is completely possible to write for long periods without getting tired. There are a lot of thoughts and stories hidden in unconsciousness that one can only find after letting go of initial weariness.
Use pen and paper or typewriter or computer. Use any medium, but the goal of the session is to write anything (literally anything) that comes to your mind. Make sure to schedule this session before reading anything in the day.
This writing will not be your best writing or writing with any rhythm.
Trusting the unconscious
It’s not easy. Initially, you will doubt. You will question whether what you are writing is even worth it. But the gems of your writing lie in the unconscious. You must trust the unconscious. You must continue to write. Write without thinking. Write every day. Do not read the previous day’s writing yet. Slowly, you will find a certain set of words that are easier for you. Your unconscious will start to open with ideas. Write, write, and write.
Trust the unconscious.
