Freedom

What does freedom mean to you? What does it mean to live in a free country? How do you live in a free state?

Freedom to travel, freedom to spend time however you want. Freedom to do anything that you want.

But, freedom comes at a cost. Even though the intention is to be free, freedom is never free. Freedom from slavery costed so many lives. Freedom from the colonization by the British costed the lives of all the freedom fighters.

Nothing comes easy, even freedom. We are born free, we die free, and in between, we live our lives chasing one desire after another.

Free yourself

How do you free yourself from your desires, from your wishes, and from all the greed? Focusing on the present can help to get rid of future misery. It’s the past that can be the most challenging. Most people carry baggage from the past.

With social media ravaging our lives, how do you make yourself present? It’s a constant battle between the past, present, and future.

If you ask anybody “What do you want in your life right now?”, many people might answer that they want a thing or two. They want more money, they want more time, they want a big house or a new card. Rarely, people will say they want freedom. We don’t value what has been given to us. Freedom is the most important thing, but we take that for granted.

Continuous distraction takes away our freedom to be in the flow. Our elders worked hard for that freedom. But we don’t care since we are born in a free country.

Of course, it’s easy to write about. Real sacrifices happen in the street. If you have freedom, you must use that to fight against injustice. You must raise your voice against the dictator.

Freedom
Rabindranath Tagore

Freedom from fear is the freedom
I claim for you my motherland!
Freedom from the burden of the ages, bending your head,
breaking your back, blinding your eyes to the beckoning
call of the future;
Freedom from the shackles of slumber wherewith
you fasten yourself in night's stillness,
mistrusting the star that speaks of truth's adventurous paths;
freedom from the anarchy of destiny
whole sails are weakly yielded to the blind uncertain winds,
and the helm to a hand ever rigid and cold as death.
Freedom from the insult of dwelling in a puppet's world,
where movements are started through brainless wires,
repeated through mindless habits,
where figures wait with patience and obedience for the
master of show,
to be stirred into a mimicry of life.
